Microsoft Word:

I’m trying to create worksheets with capitalization errors in them so my students can practice correcting them, but Word keeps making automatic  corrections.  How can I prevent this?

Select Tools from the menu bar across the top of the page.  From the drop-down menu, select Auto Correct and uncheck the boxes for all features that you do not wish to use.

My daughter’s name is Ari, but every time I run Spell Check on a document with her name in it, her name gets flagged as being misspelled.

The next time you run Spell Check and her name is flagged, check the box called Add.  This will add her name to the dictionary so that it will be recognized in the future.

Microsoft PowerPoint:

How can I add sounds to my PowerPoint presentation?

Here are the steps to import sound clips into PowerPoint:

1.     Get Office CD #2 from the Media Center.

2.     Put it into your computer; if it tries to install, say No or cancel.

3.     Open your PowerPoint presentation.

4.     Choose Insert / Movies and Sounds / Sounds from gallery.

5.     Choose Import clips.

6.     In the Look in box, point to D:\pfiles\msoffice\clipart\corpmm\sounds (where D: is the letter for your CD drive).

7.     To import all the clips, click on the first one, hold down the shift key, and click on the last one.

8.     When all are highlighted, click on Copy into clip gallery and then click Import.

This will put them onto your hard drive.  It will ask you to put a description and/or category for each sound, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to.  Just click on Mark all clips with the same properties and click OK.

If you don’t have the CD, you can get clips by clicking the Clips Online button.

Novell GroupWise:

How do I get a description of what the icons are on my toolbar?

With your mouse, right-click on the white bar where the icons are (below the menu bar).  Select Properties and click on

it.  A Toolbar Properties Menu will appear and you need to check Picture and Text.  When you click OK, you will be back

to your starting menu with the text description below the icons.

How do I look to see if my e-mail has been received?

Click on your Sent Items folder. You will see a column that shows who the document went to, the subject of the document, date and time the document was sent, how many recipients it went to, how many GroupWise recipients have opened the e-mail, etc.  If you want to see the date and time for each GroupWise user looking at the e-mail, you will need to click on the item.  For outside mail (such as other school systems, other e-mail providers such as Yahoo, MindSpring, AOL, etc.) you will only see the date and time the mail was transferred to their provider.
